Mississippi Blues Trail

Congratulations to the Mississippi Blues Commission, various funding collaborative partners, and the Mississippi Development Authority Tourism Division. This team has produced with Concept House a stellar music multimedia/information source about how to discover, visit and experience the roots of blues in the United States.

The Mississippi Blues Trail Web site and the Blues Trail iPhone app contain significant depths of knowledge not usually found in free iPhone apps. (See the related articles link below for a very thorough review by Amercian Blues Scene)

This fresh approach to the subject of the blues allows the viewer multiple paths of exploration. The application metaphor is complimentary for the seeker who wishes to immerse themselves in travels through the Mississippi and other point of southern blues interest.

I got the bug to traverse the blues trail when Rosemary and I attended the 100 year blues anniversary Salute to the Blues in 2003 at Radio City Music Hall. That magical evening was preserved on film by executive producer Martin Scorsese and director Antoine Fuqua. The SONY Picture Classics film is called “Lightning in a Bottle“.

Volkswagen was one of the sponsors of that evening. They printed a booklet that outlined all the points of interest along the blues trail. I refer to that booklet often when I start to plan a trip to Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee.

So if you love the blues and want a greater immersion into the subject refer to the Mississippi Blues Trail Website and the companion iPhone App. See you on the trail ;)
