Here we are in June of calendar year 2013. It’s time again for outdoor music concerts. One of our favorite outdoor music concert venues is The Ives Concert Park on the Danbury campus of Western Connecticut State University (WCSU).
Ives Concert Park is a prestigious, world-class performing arts center. This majestic outdoor amphitheater is situated on 40 wooded acres with a pond, breathtaking gardens and public hiking trails. We have witnessed concerts there rain and shine these past few years.
The notable change this year in the summer concert series is the new partnership with The Bowery Presents. In seasons passed The Ives Concert Park was doing business with Premier Concerts out of Waterbury. I’m not sure what transpired behind the scenes between The Ives Concert Park committee and Premier Concerts but they are not the promoter of choice for the 2013 season. I have attended past concerts that Premier Concerts has arranged and the shows have been enjoyable. As a matter of fact I am ticketed to attend David Byrne and St. Vincent at The Shubert Theater in New Haven on June 20th. I guess its safe to say there is plenty of concert business in Connecticut for both promoters
The Bowery Presents brings a fresh angle to the Ives concert series. They are a very successful promoter in NYC and Brooklyn who are expanding their market reach in the Northeast. I love that the 2013 season commences with a Jam Band weekend. Tonight’s concert is moe. and the Wood Brothers. Tomorrow’s concert (which I am attending) features one of my favorite jam bands Gov’t Mule.
I am interested in finding out how well the two-show ticket for both nights does. I’ll be watching and listening for the back-to-back jam band fans tomorrow night at The Ives I hope lots of music fans take advantage of that valuable offer!
Gov’t Mule’s opening act will be the exciting group from San Francisco, Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers. They made a live appearance this morning on The CBS Morning Show, Second Cup Cafe’ segment. I love their van song series on their YouTube channel. I was elated to learn that their cover of Hall & Oates has gotten them over 2 million+ Web views! http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=50148067n
It should be a great weekend at The Ives Concert Park this weekend. I hope the good weather holds out
