Chick Corea & The Vigil

I was browsing Chick Corea‘s Web site earlier. What a perpetual fountain of music composition he contributes to the world of jazz. I must try to devote some listening time to better assimilate his vital body of work (which is 50+ years strong).

His week-long residency at Jazz at Lincoln Center and time in New York City recently proved to be an amazing coördinated feat. Culminating in three nights dedicated to Chick and his music. Chick is the only living artist to have an entire week dedicated to him for a week-long festival at Jazz at Lincoln Center in this way (other artists are John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Charlie Parker). On May 16, 17 and 18, Chick joined Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra

The Chick Corea muse is morphing and it brings us an exciting collaborative, Chick Corea & The Vigil.  Featuring the bass phenom, Christian McBride. Creative force Marcus Gilmore on drums (carrying on the lineage of jazz from his grandfather, Roy Haynes). Saxes, flute, bass clarinet and innovation from Tim Garland. And a rising-sun (although from the west coast), guitarist Charles Altura.

Summer Tour – Connecticut Dates

Chick Corea & The Vigil will be making two appearances in Connecticut in early August. The first concert is scheduled for Saturday August 3rd at Infinity Music Hall.

The second appearance is an outside concert in Stamford, Ct as the last jazz act in the Jazz Up July Series. That event is scheduled for Wednesday August 7th at Columbus Park.

The Vigil

Music master Chick Corea reinvents himself again. With all new music and an all new band. Plus, fresh arrangements of Corea Classics. From sublime acoustic to brilliant electric

The Vigil also features guest appearances by Stanley Clarke and Ravi Coltrane.
