This is a classic song for an Indian Summer Sunday afternoon. ”My Sunday Feeling” is taken from the debut Jethro Tull album, This Was (1968) featuring Ian Anderson on vocals and flute, Mick Abrahams on guitar, Glenn Cornick on bass and Clive Bunker on drums

Jazzed that The Fairfield Theatre Company has booked the Tedeschi Trucks Band along with Scrapomatic. The concert takes place Saturday October 29th at The Klein Memorial Auditorium in Bridgeport, Ct.

What I am even more pleased about is that the concert tickets were $50 each for FTC members. Just last Friday Ridgefield Playhouse charged $127 each for the same seats to see Tedeschi Trucks Band live. We are saving $77 a ticket and did I also mention we’re getting two bands that night, Hey Now!
Thanks Fairfield Theater Company for charging the right price for us members. Keeping music affordable in these dire economic times speaks to your commitment to us the music buying public. We attend thirty+ concerts a year and appreciate a value when we see one!

This morning I received an interesting e-mail from Genesis Publications. They are a limited edition, specialty music book publisher from England that “produce lushly designed rock photo books.” – N.Y. Times
I received advance notification of a book title of keen interest to my music collection. Mr. Fantasy, The Lyrics of Jim Capaldi. I greatly admire and respect, Jim Capaldi the backbone of Traffic.

There was a time in my life (1968-1971) where the only two bands that mattered were Jethro Tull and Traffic. I was a fervent fan of these two English music groups. I went to their live concerts at the Fillmore East and the Capitol Theatre in Portchester, N.Y.

I even bought an exact replica of the stars shirt that Steve Winwood is wearing on stage in this photograph. It caught him by surprise that I was wearing that same shirt in the audience (7th row center) on the evening that this set list was based upon. Notice that Scott Muni introduces Traffic that night
(A correction to the dates of these recorded June shows, they were June 26 & June 27 ,1971, I know I have the ticket stubs to prove it!)

Traffic was a special group with a magical mix of musicians. I learned about Traffic by listening to the radio show, Things From England that Scott Muni hosted on WNEW-FM102.7 on Friday afternoons. WNEW-FM, a Metromedia affiliate out of New York City had a major influence on my musical tastes. WNEW-FM’s progressive rock format created an intellectual music platform that we devoutly followed all hours of the day and night.
My favorite Traffic album is Traffic (1968).

Here are some pictures taken with my Apple iPhone 3GS from the fourth row at Infinity Hall last night, August 20th, 2011.
The rest of the photos are available here on Flickr.
Thank you Infinity Hall for honoring us Infinity Stars members with drinks, hor d’oeuvres and a wonderful evening of music by The Nighthawks.
The Meet & Greet was appreciated!
We belong to the Infinity Stars Membership Club. This is our second year in that club. We have been to Infinity Hall 13 times since May 24, 2009.
We love the staff and the way we are treated at this club. We especially enjoy the Infinity Bistro right next door. We have had many a fine meals there before a live performance.

Tonight we are invited to attend the Infinity Stars Party. We are new to the music of The Nighthawks, so we are excited to experience this group’s music live.

My wife and I attend 25+ concerts a year. We’re honored that Infinity Hall values our patronage and is reciprocating with us by holding a party for Infinity Stars members.
Gonna rock with fellow Infinity Stars members and The Nighthawks tonight!
Congratulations to the Mississippi Blues Commission, various funding collaborative partners, and the Mississippi Development Authority Tourism Division. This team has produced with Concept House a stellar music multimedia/information source about how to discover, visit and experience the roots of blues in the United States.
The Mississippi Blues Trail Web site and the Blues Trail iPhone app contain significant depths of knowledge not usually found in free iPhone apps. (See the related articles link below for a very thorough review by Amercian Blues Scene)
This fresh approach to the subject of the blues allows the viewer multiple paths of exploration. The application metaphor is complimentary for the seeker who wishes to immerse themselves in travels through the Mississippi and other point of southern blues interest.
I got the bug to traverse the blues trail when Rosemary and I attended the 100 year blues anniversary Salute to the Blues in 2003 at Radio City Music Hall. That magical evening was preserved on film by executive producer Martin Scorsese and director Antoine Fuqua. The SONY Picture Classics film is called “Lightning in a Bottle“.
Volkswagen was one of the sponsors of that evening. They printed a booklet that outlined all the points of interest along the blues trail. I refer to that booklet often when I start to plan a trip to Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee.
So if you love the blues and want a greater immersion into the subject refer to the Mississippi Blues Trail Website and the companion iPhone App. See you on the trail

Bonnie Raitt sings my favorite song
Her stellar blues playing shows off her slide guitar skills admirably. I love her voice and how poised her stage presence is!
I was browsing the latest issue of Rolling Stone Magazine today, when I happened upon a music review for blues guitarist Gary Clark Jr., written by Will Hermes.
Hermes writes about Gary Clark Jr. ‘s EP Bright Lights:
Meet the Texas young gun taking the blues to nasty new places
This article commands my attention as I take comfort in the blues being carried aloft by sincere, focused musicians. Gary Clark Jr. embodies that persona admirably. I flash on last seeing Gary Clark Jr. with Doyle Bramhall on the DVD of the Clapton 2010 Crossroads Guitar Festival that I own. It hits me. He played Bright Lights that day. That’s the title of the EP Will Hermes is aglow about. It fits like tongue and groove after that.
I try to resist as best I can becoming “too” influenced by the hype. It has turned out wrongly applied to artist’s musical talents in the past. The music industry reeks of false bravado just to move product. But the more I listen to the EP download, the more I find Gary Clark Jr.’s blues style and gritty vocals coursing through these old veins.
He’s truly authentic as Doyle Bramhall states. The Bright Lights EP is nicely counterbalanced, two studio tracks and two live tracks. The artist’s commitment to the blues comes across as others typify him, Gary Clark Jr. is a Top Gun Bluesman.
Making myself a note to start hunting for a live performance by Gary Clark Jr. so I can get the total effect up close and personal soon.
I got the bug for the blues in 1971 while I was attending college. I was a college FM disk jockey minoring in music. I learned about Alligator Records from the music playlist at the radio station. I’ve been a fan of their rich catalog and roster of blues artists ever since.
Alligator Records is an independent record label that is willing to take the risk of recording and promoting blues musicians that deserve attention and respect.
It is with great pride that I announce the relaunching of the Alligator Records Web Site. Stop by and browse their house rockin music wares. You will receive 20% off your orders throughout the month of August! Shipping is always FREE in the USA.
