Michael Stipe: The Man Who Sold The World

I was watching the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon when I heard Jimmy mention that Michael Stipe would be performing a tribute to David Bowie. I did everything in my power to stay awake for Michael’s performance. I had been missing his soulful voice. I wasn’t disappointed.

It was a great teaser for the The Music of David Bowie tribute concert which sold out in minutes at Carnegie Hall on Thursday March 31st and Friday April 1st. The Friday night concert will be streamed for a suggested donation of $20. Donations benefit various NY City music education programs. A cause near and dear to the music of our heart 🙂

Here is Michael Stipe’s segment. I love how it is just Micheal invoking Bowie set against a solo pianist. Striking. Welcome back, Michael. It’s wonderful to hear you singing from your heart once more.

I am especially psyched that the Maria Schneider Orchestra will be performing this year.

Watch the video and feel the excitement for this world recognized event.

Public television continues to be one of the best avenues of American music specials.

Frequently referred to as “the Mount Rushmore of country music,” The HighwaymenWillie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson – were American country music’s first bona fide supergroup, an epic quartet comprised of the outlaw country genre’s pioneering stars. I  enjoy the aesthetics of album art graphics design . I received an email today from designhitz.com.  I was very impressed with their design portfolio. They have a strong chart of accounts that includes, Universal Music, Sun Records and Alligator Records.

Mark Slawinski evidences sharp use of color, offsetting geometrics with compelling images as he portrays various musicians/genres.  Browse his art and see if there is an album design there for your next recording.
