You’d have to be living under a rock not to know that Bruce Springsteen has a new autobiography, Born to Run and a companion recording, “Chapter and Verse”.
Bruce Springsteen is our American music living legend. He has one of the strongest and most committed fan bases in music today.
He is presently on a book promotion tour. Yesterday he sat down with Eddy Cue, Senior VP of Internet Software and Services at the Apple SoHo Store for a 45 minute interview. Jimmy Iovine, Apple Music top executive and the producer of Springsteen’s Born to Run and Darkness on the Edge of Town albums was in also in attendance.
I find it interesting that Eddy Cue chose Facebook Live as the medium for the Webcast. I thinking Eddy Cue would have preferred to utilize Apple’s network (Beats 1) but they don’t have that capability yet. (Outsource vs. insource)
Here is the video link from last night’s interview. Enjoy.
“The song isn’t really about my dad but references him and our strong relationship,” Haynes said.
I’m looking forward to a new biography due to release on November 15, 2016. ‘Bear: The Life and Times Of Augustus Owsley Stanley III’ written by Robert Greenfield, a music author/journalist I deeply respect.
First-hand reflections from Bob Weir, Phil Lesh and Jerry Garcia are included in the book which comes from the author of Dark Star: An Oral History Of Jerry Garcia. Greenfield also penned Exile on Main St.: A Season in Hell with the Rolling Stones and collaborated with impresario Bill Graham on Bill Graham Presents: My Life Inside Rock and Out.
Augustus Owsley Stanley III, better known by his nickname, Bear, was one of the most iconic figures in the cultural revolution that changed both America and the world during the 1960s.
Owsley’s high-octane rocket fuel enabled Ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters to put on the Acid Tests. It also powered much of what happened on stage at Monterey Pop. Owsley turned on Pete Townshend of The Who and Jimi Hendrix. The shipment of LSD that Owsley sent John Lennon resulted in The Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour album and film.
Convinced that the Grateful Dead were destined to become the world’s greatest rock ‘n’ roll band, Owsley provided the money that kept them going during their early days. As their longtime soundman, he then faithfully recorded many of the Dead’s greatest live performances and designed the massive space age system that came to be known as the Wall of Sound.
I received an email this morning. It contained an invitation from Congressman John Lewis via the White House. I was invited to virtually attend the opening ceremony of the National Museum of African American History and Culture today at 10:00 am ET.
I was thankful for that invite as I got to witness the celebration of a vital 100 year project come to fruition on the National Mall.
There were wonderful speeches and presentations.
My favorite moment was Stevie Wonder’s words and the question he had for us to contemplate, “Where is our Love Song?”
With all that’s been going on in Charlotte the symbolism of promoting unity through the opening of this museum was not lost in the music of my heart.
The United Nations – United Nations, Ringo Starr and Digital Stars Debut “Now The Time Has Come” for International Day of Peace
LOS ANGELES, CA – September 21, 2016 – Today legendary musician, Ringo Starr, in partnership with the United Nations debuted “Now The Time Has Come”, a moving anthem to commemorate the United Nations’ International Day of Peace, recognized annually on September 21. Co-written with producer Bruce Sugar, “Now The Time Has Come”, with verses sung by Richard Page, Colin Hay and Billy Valentine, the record also features backing vocals from social media superstars Christian Collins, Maddi Jane, Casey McPherson, James Maslow and Wesley Stromberg.
“I worked on this record with Peace & Love,” said Ringo. “It was a joy to be part of this project.”
The song is part of the massive social media campaign #HugForPeace, a combination call-to-action and hashtag that promotes 24-hours of non-violence on the International Day of Peace through a simple act: a hug. The campaign was launched at the annual Ringing of the Peace Bell ceremony hosted at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on September 16 by UN Assistant Secretary-General Ray Chambers.
To ensure that young people play a leading role in the campaign, Chambers has enlisted the support of top social media stars including Christian Collins, Crawford Collins, Melvin Gregg, Maddi Jane, Chloe Lukasiak, James Maslow and Wesley Stromberg – all lending their voices in support of #HugForPeace. Partners include Facebook, Influential Network, Sprinklr, the U.S. Institute of Peace, Princess House and Religions for Peace, among others.
“Each and every one of us has an important role to play in championing peace within our communities,” said Ray Chambers, UN Assistant Secretary-General. “I am so grateful to Ringo Starr for lending his talent to unite people through the gift of song. I hope people across the world from Colombia to Syria will heed this call for peace—now.”
In 2001, the United Nations General Assembly designated September 21st as the International Day of Peace, devoted to strengthening the ideals for peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The day was also established as an annual day of non-violence and cease-fire. The Secretary-General has asked partners to lend their voices to this call for a laying down of arms, in order to bring about a 24-hour ceasefire on September 21st.
