Gathering of the Vibes – 20 Years Strong

The Gathering of the Vibes Music Festival will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year. The Vibe Tribe has an exciting “initial schedule” to look forward to in 2015 in Bridgeport at Seaside Park. The festival takes place July 30-August 2, 2015.

I am stoked for Wilco, The String Cheese Incident, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and Billy & The Kids.

Can’t wait to see who else gets added to this event!

Do I Look Worried – Tedeschi Trucks Band

I was watching CBS This Morning Saturday Edition. Anthony Mason, the co-host mentioned that the musical guest would be the Tedeschi Trucks Band (TTB). I stay tuned in to watch TTB do, “Do I Look Worried” from their latest album Made Up Mind.

I’ve owned Made Up Mind since it was released on August 20, 2013. I play it from time to time. I was appreciating the fact that TTB is still working this recording as part of their appearances. Today’s performance solidified the recording in the music of our heart.

The song “Do I Look Worried” was written with John Leventhal who is married to Rosanne Cash. John Leventhal is an excellent songwriter, guitarist and arranger. He plays a principal role in the success of Rosanne Cash’s latest hit recording, The River & The Thread. Derek Trucks returns the favor to John Leventhal by playing on their track, “World of Strange Design”.

Blessed Are The Peacemakers

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God Matthew 5:9

A warm round of applause to Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi for extending the offer to jam with Dickey Betts this past Saturday night at the Beacon Theatre in NYC. Betts sat in for takes on the Allman’s “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” and “Blue Sky” towards the end of TTB’s set, before returning in the encore for “The Sky Is Crying.”

July Outdoor Summer Concerts in Bridgeport, Ct.

I consider myself fortunate to live really close to eclectic Bridgeport, Connecticut. The month of July in Bridgeport offers two weeks of outdoor music events I plan to attend.

1) The first event is Friday July 19th.  The Americanarama Music Festival will take place at the Bridgeport Bluefish stadium starting at 5:30 p.m.

The Americanarama Music Festival features Bob Dylan and His Band, Wilco, My Morning Jacket and Ryan Bingham at our baseball park tour stop.

I’m considering taking the local Metro North train to this event which negates the hassle of driving and parking. I can just hop the train and be at the stadium in 16 minutes. It will only cost $5 round trip and some foot power 😉

2) The second event is the annual Gathering of the Vibes at Seaside Park, July 25-28. We haven’t decided what day we are going yet. The weather plays a factor in our choice as some years it gets blazing hot over there. I like that Gov’t Mule, Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Roots, Phil Lesh and Friends are amongst this years acts.

We usually can buy tickets at the gate as locals so we’ll play this event by ear as we move closer to the Vibes weekend.

Tedeschi Trucks Band – Made Up Mind

The second studio album from the stellar Tedeschi Trucks Band is in the can and will be released August 20th, 2013. It is titled Made Up Mind. I genuinely love what this 11 piece ensemble delivers so I am eager to hear some initial cuts. I can see from their recent set lists these songs are being played live 😉

All I can tell you now is what the news release states:

The product is an energetic, powerful album that is both timeless and characteristically difficult to classify.

Made Up Mind

9) Sweet and Low

Ain’t No Use – Tedeschi Trucks Band

One of the most highly underrated musical acts performing live today is the Tedeschi Trucks Band. They are musically deceptive and clever all at the same time.

Watch as Tedeschi Trucks Band performs The Meters classic “Ain’t No Use” with George Porter Jr. on bass at the Keswick Theatre in Philadelphia, 11.28.2012.

One of my favorite concert photographers Dino Perrucci captured their performance through his inimitable lens.

For those of you who love the new SoundCloud here is the TTB HTML5 edition.

Darling Be Home Soon Video – Tedeschi Trucks Band

We attended the Tedeschi Trucks Band concert at The Klein in Bridgeport, Ct. on October 29, 2011. It was an intimate, magical evening as this video dynamically captures 😉 TTB performs a tender recreation of Darling Be Home Soon by The Lovin’ Spoonful.

A great and full music day

Did you ever have one of those days that was as much a contact high as it was richly fulfilling. May 22, 2012 has been that day for music appreciation.

The day started on a high note and has been playing strong ever since. I was waiting for the morning coffee to kick in as The Howard Stern Show began its Rock Day over the Sirius/XM wireless radio. I quickly learned that Slash was coming into the studio to talk to Howard Stern to promote his new CD, Apocalyptic Love (5/22)His interview was as compelling as it was intimate. I’m listening to the replay of the interview as I write this post. Amazing musical career. I especially like his vocalist Myles Kennedy, their juxtaposition is striking

Slash’s interview was followed by Gregg Allman‘s in-studio appearance and interview in support of his new autobiography, My Cross to Bear.

Today was also the release date of the Tedeschi Trucks Band Live double CD, Everybody’s Talkin. I have my copy in my hot little hands and I can’t wait to start listening to it on the Bose Sound System after the Gregg Allman interview.

I am eager to relive some of the live tracks that were recorded at the Tedeschi Trucks Band’s concert we attended last year on October 29th in Bridgeport, CT along with all the other tracks. I have also downloaded the extra track, “Simple Song / Take You Higher”.

Here is the video of Everybody’s Talkin filmed at The Klein in Bridgeport, Ct.
